Cage Warriors Showdown 3 Cancelled

We regret to announce that due to interference by Wolverhampton City Council, the forthcoming CW Showdown 3 event at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall has been cancelled.

Warrior Promotions has been dealing with the management team of the Wolverhampton Civic Hall over the last few weeks and originally encountered no problems. In fact several meetings were held in which filming, lighting and other procedures were discussed and agreed upon. Warrior Promotions were even given the right to use the box office at the venue, and tickets for this event were even available on their website to buy, and the Warrior Promotions team were given tickets to pass on to the fighters.

The venue was well aware that several local fighters were already scheduled to compete and that their story was to be covered by a local newspaper. The Civic Hall even mentioned on their website that a big International Title fight was also due to take place. Nevertheless this was not enough and as the Wolverhampton Civic hall is a Council run venue, it is bound by the rules and the decision making process of the local council, which disgracefully waited several weeks before deciding to act and put pressure on the management of the Civic Hall to cancel the event.

Everyone at Cage Warriors and Warrior Promotions are saddened that Wolverhampton Council has decided to take this course of action, as they have made their decision by using out of date and inaccurate stereotypes. They even classed our event as “Caged Boxing” and stated that MMA is “More dangerous than Boxing”, and that the Public perception of MMA is that “MMA is a dangerous sport” and that even Sky TV believe that the sport is “Dangerous” too. All of these claims are unsubstantiated and BSkyB even show Mixed Martial Arts action on their network.

It is also regrettable and hypocritical that they decided to ban Mixed Martial Arts events at the Civic Hall after previously allowing a promoter to hold MMA bouts last year at the First Step To Tokyo event and when reminded of this fact the Civic hall did not even realise that MMA bouts had taken place.

The Cage Warriors/Warrior Promotions team are trying to find another venue to hold this event in, and will also be looking into taking action against both the Wolverhampton Civic Hall and the Local Council in the near future.
